Yet Another False Teacher…

March 15, 2011

Its been a while since I have posted but once again there is a cause. It seems that one Mr. Rob Bell, a false teacher from the Emergent Church group is out selling his wares for public consumption. I have put his ABC interview here for you to look at. Clearly heresy. First you can watch the softball interview with George Stephanopolis http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/pastor-claims-hell-does-not-exist-13138917?tab=9482931&section=1206833

Next you can watch a not so easy interview on MSNBC of all places. http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/2011/03/15/msnbc-martin-bashirs-interview-with-rob-bell/

I’m sure the guys at www.unreasonablefaith.com are having a field day with this one, specifically because they actually look for false teachers whose lies are so easy to expose that even an atheist can do it. Here’s how the UF guys operate. First they find a false teacher, then they expose the false doctrine, declaring it to be the real truth and finally they shoot down the strawman.  On the other hand, when dealing with real Biblical truth they have no answers. they cannot stand against truth and so, like little boys and girls caught in a lie, they hurl insults.

Having said all of that, the newest ‘darling’ of religious afficinados everywhere Mr. Rob Bell, ‘pastor’ or Mars Hill ‘Church’ has taken to the airwaves. But at least one interviewer didn’t give him a pass. you can see that interview here; http://www.theblaze.com/stories/msnbc-hammers-pastor-over-heaven-and-hell-claims/

Clearly this man is a false teacher; his doctrine makes this clear.  I am including a couple of pithy links from Al Mohler for more detail concerning what Mr. Bell teaches.

Like all false teachers he has a following because sinful man will will not endure false doctrine but having itching ears they are all too willing to heap to themselves false teachers who will tell them what they want to hear. In 1st John 4:5 we read that 5They (false teachers, antichrists) are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. Mr. Bell’s congregation is a worldly congregation seeking ‘relevant’ life lessons and he is very willing to give them what they want.

Today I would like to take just one of his rhetorical questions/statements and deal with it.

He declared: “Will only a few select people make it to heaven?” And will billions and billions burn forever in hell? Well what does the Bible say because Gods word is the ultimate, the final, indeed the only authority. Lets take these statements one at a time.

First as to will only a few select people make it to heaven? What does the bible say? In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus, the One who created hell in the first place said this: 13 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.  Many, the majority of people in this world love the world, their sin, their lives and want nothing to do with God. They are on the broad road that leads to destruction…eternal punishment in hell because of their rebellion and hatred of God.

So to answer Mr. Bells question as to whether “billions and billions burn forever in hell?”  The answer is sadly, yes. Unless they repent they will perish, they will suffer eternal punishment for their sins, for the wages of sin is death!

The truth of the matter, directly from the lips of Jesus Christ is this: 14“For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

In His parable about the Wedding Feast Jesus made this very clear statement;  found in Matthew 22 and specifically for our purposes here verse 14we read “For many are called, but few are chosen.” Many hear the gospel from many sources. Many hear the call of the gospel. But few are chosen, appointed to eternal life.  Paul, in his epistle to the Romans quotes Isaiah the Old Testament Prophet who “cries out concerning Israel, “THOUGH THE NUMBER OF THE SONS OF ISRAEL BE LIKE THE SAND OF THE SEA, IT IS THE REMNANT THAT WILL BE SAVED; Who is this remnant? Those whom God foreknew before the foundation of the world, men from every tribe tongue and nation who were purchased by the blood of Jesus.

How can you see this faithful remnant. I think you can clearly see them in the reaction to the word of God. Jesus said “Come to Me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. What a wonderful call! Those whom God has chosen respond with joy. The rest react with indignation. Truth brings that kind of reaction. It is an either or situation. You either respond in joy like the man who found a treasure in a field and sold everything he had to get it or you blaze forth in a raging tirade against it. For evidence of the latter, you need look no further than   www.unreasonablefaith.com and see what happens when a real Christian speaks the truth.

Now does this mean that some people are better than others? Not at all. Paul said in Romans 3 that all are sinful, all hate God…all are in the same boat, shut up to disobedience. It is only through God who has mercy on whom He chooses that anyone will find eternal life.

So God, Who wrote the Bible, declares that, yes, only a few will find life.

I therefore plead with anyone reading this that you run away from Rob Bell and all of his emergent church friends. They are leading you down that broad road that leads to destruction. Open the Bible, the Word of God and seek the small gate and the narrow road that leads to life. Call upon Jesus Christ to have mercy upon you and ask Him to wash away your sins in His precious blood. You will truly find Him if you look with all of your heart. You must have a new heart, a new life and faith, and this is something that only Jesus Christ can give you. Therefore you must trust Jesus, that He is really who He said He is. You must cast all your cares upon Him, believing that He really can save your soul. The writer of Hebrews declares“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

Please look to Him today.
