The Shroud of Turin is NOT the burial cloth of Jesus!

May 4, 2010

Once again the subject has come up…is the Shroud of Turin the real deal.  Here is the article. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=148021

Do you want to know my view?

 IT IS NOT! Consider the facts.

1. The Jews wrapped their dead in strips of cloth soaked in myrrh and aloes. This wrapping would then harden like a cocoon. Also they only wrapped the body up to the neck. There was a separate face cloth to cover the face. You can read the truth here from John 20:3-7 So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. 4 The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; 5 and stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. 6 And so Simon Peter also *came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he *saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself.

Unless the strips of cloth and the face cloth somehow miraculously fused together the evidence is in.

2. God issued a command specifically prohibiting the worship of objects/images. Listen to God Himself as he speaks here;

Exodus 20:4-6   “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5 “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

This should really be a case of enough said. God will not violate His own commandment and give you an object to worship. Note one more verse; Joh 4:23-24 “”But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Worship does not consist in an object or a place but a Person. We are commanded to worship God and serve only Him! If you want to believe a lie I really can’t help you. You see, as Isa 44:20 says, you are an idol worshiper described thusly, He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has turned him aside. And he cannot deliver himself, nor say, “Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

Have a nice day!

    The traditions of men are often more cherished than the truth revealed in the word of God. As the saying goes, one has to take off their own shoes before they can take a walk in someone else’s moccasins, and similarly, when it comes to a case of The Bible vs. Tradition, one has to be willing to let go of the traditions of men in order to see the truth that is hidden in plain sight in the text of scripture.

    TheDiscipleWhomJesusLoved.com has a free eBook that compares scripture with scripture in order to highlight the facts in the plain text of scripture that are usually overlooked about the “other disciple, whom Jesus loved”. Since scripture is profitable for correction, you may want to weigh the testimony of scripture that it cites regarding the one whom “Jesus loved” and may find it to be helpful as it encourages bible students to heed the admonition, “prove all things”.
