The Christian Gospel: Hate Speech or Love Speech?

July 17, 2009

Warning; the federal government is on its way to churches across our land in the name of enforcing Hate Speech Crimes against Homosexuals. I have included a link at the end of this post for further education.

The new hate crimes bill (S 909) which we are being assured by the democrats, will not infringe upon free speech, will do just that.  The federal government, now being run by democrats; who can be more accurately described as socialists, communists, hate God and are openly raising their fists in His face. They have spurned our Constitution which declares that “Congress shall make no laws establishing religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” I guess they think that this law was for ‘them back then!”

I found it interesting as I was reading the Bible this morning how God was directing my thoughts to how I must deal with the warnings of threat of imprisonment or violence to my person through His word. I was in Acts chapter 4 and I was marveling at how accurate God’s word is; how up to date it is. There is nothing new under the sun and in this passage God shows to us the hearts of wicked men and evil doers. He reveals to us who they are; ungodly men and women who hate Him and all that He stands for.

In Psalm 2, which was quoted by Peter in Acts 4, we read of the scene that is being played out in Congress as we speak; 1 “Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!” How does the Lord react to such behavior? 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. 5 Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, 6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”

You see, whether our government likes it or not, God is the ruler in the affairs of men! And God’s laws will be enforced whether the ungodly like it or not. Now the government may come and throw me in jail for preaching His holy word. They may arrest me for saying the things I am saying in this entry! They may threaten me with jail or bodily harm or execution. How will I react? I want you to see this scene played out in the scriptures 2000 years ago, because this is how I will react! In the passage before us Peter and John were hauled into court. Because they had healed a cripped man and preached the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They too were warned. How did they react? Take a look.

1  As they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them, 2 being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they laid hands on them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 But many of those who had heard the message believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. 5 ¶ On the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; 6 and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of high-priestly descent. 7 When they had placed them in the center, they began to inquire, “By what power, or in what name, have you done this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people, 9 if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health. 11 “He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone. 12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” 13 Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. 14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. 15 ¶ But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another, 16 saying, “What shall we do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17 “But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man in this name.” 18 And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; 20 for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

Understand again the reason that these two men were before the court in the first place; they were preaching Jesus! 5000 men had been saved! A man who had been crippled was now walking and leaping and praising God! The truth was undeniable. But the religious leaders (the government) didn’t like the message. It offended them. Therefore they threatened the Apostles and told them not to speak about Jesus in public anymore. What was their answer? “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; 20 for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

This is my answer as well. If you want to call the preaching of the Gospel; literally the good news that there is salvation from the wrath of God that is coming upon the world because of sin; not just one specific sin but because of all sin, whether done in the privacy of ones own home or in the halls of Congress, whether decreed from the White House or in the  Supreme Court, if you want to call this hate speech, I can’t help you!

But understand this, sin is sin before God and all men stand before Him on level ground. But God has had mercy and has provided the way of escape from His omnipotent wrath, by sending His only Son to take that punishment upon Himself. Is this hate speech? Consider this statement from the Bible; Ro 2:4 “Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?” The kindness of God has been demonstrated in the sacrifice of His Son in our place. Hate Speech? No! The hate speech is being spewed from the homosexual community, from the pedephiles and other deviants who want to practice their sinful behavior without opposition.

It is interesting to me how they think that if all the Christians were silenced then all will be well. What they don’t know is that even if they were to wipe every Christian off the face of the earth (an earnest desire on their part) they cannot kill God nor can they silence Him! God is a righteous Judge Who is angry with the wicked everyday. And because of sin, the wrath of God is coming. This is the danger that every sinner faces. And that is precisely why the Christian message is being preached; sinners are in danger, their house is burning down and they are just one step away from eternity in hell. But the message of the gospel, the good news from God Himself is that there is deliverance from your life of sin and the wrath of God. God, the Judge Himself has provided the way to escape from His judgment. He Himself has paid the un-payable debt of sin on our behalf!

Hate Speech?

The government seems to think so! And they are a-comin! Jesus forwarned us of this in Lu 21:12 when He said “But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name’s sake.

What must Christians do in the perilous days ahead? We must stand firm in the once for all delivered to the saints faith, not in arrogance as the enemy does, but in humility, knowing the wrath of God, we must seek to persuade men to, in the words of God Himself; “Turn, turn, for why will you die!

Hate Speech?

No this is Love Speech!
